What Is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is a highly effective procedure for treating conditions
of the innermost layer of a tooth, known as the pulp. At See Me Smile
Dental of Oxnard, our experienced dentists specialize in performing this
treatment when a tooth is suffering from dental decay, inflammation, or
trauma.
Root canal therapy is used to repair and save teeth that have been severely
damaged, decayed, or infected by bacteria. The main purpose of this
procedure is to alleviate associated symptoms, such as severe pain and
swelling, along with restoring optimal oral health.
During the root canal therapy, the dentist cleans the diseased tooth,
removes the damaged dental pulp, and fills the empty root canal with a
compound.
Without root canal therapy, the entire pulp, which contains nerves and
blood vessels, may need to be removed, but with treatment, it can be
effectively cleaned and sealed.
